Football as it happened. El Classico, Le Classique and more!
On a busy day of phenomenal football fixtures, we witnessed a whole lot of action. Here is a summary of the day:
EL CLASSICO
Of course, the most anticipated game of the year is the Classico between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two teams took the pitch for the first time in 14 years without Leo Messi and Sergio Ramos on the team sheet.
Goals from David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez proved to be sufficient as La Real took the points home. Despite the Blaugrana's best attempts (including a handball on Toni Kroos which wasn't awarded as a penalty) they failed to match the Los Blancos as Kun Aguero was the only scorer in a dismal 2-1 loss at the Catalan fortress. The loss means that Ronald Koeman has yet to win a Classico as Barcelona's manager.
LE CLASSIQUE
The El Classico of France and quite possibly the most violent game of the night. PSG traveled to Marseille to face off against OM. Leo Messi was to face his former Argentina coach in Jorge Sampaoli. A frustrating OM goal was ruled offside much to the disappointment of the home crowd. The environment was so violent that the PSG players had to take corners while being shielded with barriers. Achraf Hakimi was sent off for catching Cengiz Under. Despite the draw, PSG managed to stay at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 28 points in hand.
MANCHESTER UNITED VS LIVERPOOL
The face of Sir Alex says it all, doesn't it?
Manchester United was humiliated in under 50 minutes by Klopp and co. as Mo Salah proved that he is the best player in the world right now with a brilliant Hattrick against the Red Devils saw them win 5-0. To rub salt on the wounds Paul Pogba, who was substituted in was sent off for a bad challenge on Naby Kieta. Liverpool fans were over the moon singing "Ole's at the wheel" while the Mancs fled the scene with utter disappointment.
DERBY D'ITALIA
Paulo Dybala came to the rescue for the Biaconneri as Juve held inter to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Edin Dzeko put the defending champions in front through a deflected Hakan Calhanoglu shot. However, a controversial decision on Denzel Dumfries foul was awarded as a penalty to Alex Sandro and La Joya converted from the spot to snatch a point for the Old Lady.
ZENIT VS SPARTAK MOSCOW
I agree that this is not the game y'all thought I'd add in but Zenit Saint- Petersburg CRUSHED Spartak Moscow with a 7-1 thumping at the Gazprom arena. Goals from Azmoun, Claudinho, Mostovoy, Dzyuba, and Yerokhin pushed them to the top of the table with 3 points while Spartak sit 7th in the Russian Premier League with 17 points.
GAME OF THE DAY: MANCHESTER- LIVERPOOL
One for the books as the Reds completely disassembled ManUtd with absolute ease. Completely choked the attacking power of Cristiano Ronaldo and frustrated Harry Maguire and his defense. The loss leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with no more excuses as Mancs want their manager to step down to avoid any further embarrassment.
