Football as it happened. El Classico, Le Classique and more!

Image
On a busy day of phenomenal football fixtures, we witnessed a whole lot of action. Here is a summary of the day: EL CLASSICO Of course, the most anticipated game of the year is the Classico between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two teams took the pitch for the first time in 14 years without Leo Messi and Sergio Ramos on the team sheet. Goals from David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez proved to be sufficient as La Real took the points home. Despite the Blaugrana's best attempts (including a handball on Toni Kroos which wasn't awarded as a penalty) they failed to match the Los Blancos as Kun Aguero was the only scorer in a dismal 2-1 loss at the Catalan fortress. The loss means that Ronald Koeman has yet to win a Classico as Barcelona's manager.  LE CLASSIQUE  The El Classico of France and quite possibly the most violent game of the night. PSG traveled to Marseille to face off against OM. Leo Messi was to face his former Argentina coach in Jorge Sampaoli. A frustrating OM goal was r...

FRANCE WIN THE UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE 2021!

Image
The World champions locked horns with La Roja last night in what was a clash for the ages but at the end of 90 minutes, it was France who became the second team to win the newest title in Europe after Portugal. A sea of Red and Blue was visible at the San Siro as the two teams walked out of the tunnel. Luis Enrique decided to rock with the classic 4-3-3 while Didier Deschamps assembled his squad in a 3-4-1-2 formation. The game began with both sides trying to thwart the other defenses but none could manage to score as rigid defenses managed to nullify any attacks. However, France was dealt with an early blow as veteran defender Raphael Varane 's UNL final appearance had to be cut short due to injury. He was replaced with Dayot Upmecano . The referee called time on a frustrating first half which saw Spain have most of the possession.  The second half saw Spain constantly threatened the french defense with their fluid passing and high pressing. France got very close through a phe...

HEARTBREAK FOR BELGIUM AS HERNANDEZ SENDS FRANCE TO THE FINALS WITH A 90' MINUTE GOAL.

Turin, Italy. A dramatic game ended with heartbreak for Belgium but pushed  France  into ecstasy as the World Champions emerged overturned a two-goal deficit against the World's No.1 ranked side to win the second semi-final and qualify for the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday. Didier Deschamp 's men were at the ropes as Yannick Carasco broke the deadlock with a sublime right-footed goal and three minutes later, Romeleu Lukaku got Belgium to a two-goal lead by turning in Hernandez and finding the accurate angle to fire it in.  The second half started with Belgium launching small attacks and came close to tripling their lead but it was France's Captain Hugo Lloris , who managed to collect a Romeleu Lukaku shot. France opened their account as Kylian Mbappe set Karim Benzema a low left-footed goal. Later, Antoine Griezmann went down in the penalty box and the awarded penalty was bagged brilliantly by Kylian Mbappe.  Frantic attempts were stopped by heroic effort...

SPAIN END ITALY'S 38 GAME UNBEATEN STREAK. QUALIFY FOR THE FINAL.

Milan, Italy. In what was a game of extremely high intensity, it was the Spaniards that emerged victorious at the Guiseppe Meazza as two goals from Ferran Torres forced the Italians to accept their first loss since 10th September 2018 when they lost against defending champions Portugal in the semi-final. A young Spanish squad was geared for revenge after Manchini's men eliminated Luis Enrique's young side from the Euro2020 tournament before eventually winning the tournament.  There were a few new faces on the Spanish squad, most notably Pablo Gavi , the 17-year-old midfield prodigy from FC Barcelona who started in his first appearance for his country. Both Roberto Manchini and Luis Enrique decided to go for a classic 4-3-3 At 17 minutes, Ferran Torres struck a wonderful volley from a Mikel Oyarzabal cross. Things, however, didn't improve for the Italians as Captain Leonardo Bonucci was sent off after a second yellow card for the foul on Spanish captain Sergio Busquet...

FC BARCELONA: GOING DOWN THE AC MILAN WAY?

Image
A 3-NIL loss to both  Benfica & Bayern Munich , a possible bottom group stage elimination in the Champions League, 6th in the LaLiga points table, inconsistent first-team performances and irregular managerial decisions. Things are not looking very bright for  FC Barcelona. The historic football club is currently having a hard time on both the National and European fronts as their management has reported a +1Billion Dollar debt which unfortunately led to the end of Leo Messi's illustrious career in Blaugrana colors. Football fans around the world can relate the Catalan club's current woes to AC Milan , the Italian side that had players like Ronaldo, Maldini, Baresi, Beckham, Ibrahimovic, and Nesta to name a few, don the famous Diavolo colors. After winning the Scudetto in the 2010-11 Season the club performance declined after a series of economic and sporting errors and although they have managed to get themselves back into European contention Barcelona seems to...
